Coconut Records is the love child of actor Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore, The Darjeeling Limited, I Heart Huckabees). Schwartzman wrote every song, performed much of the instrumentation, and even invited Zooey Deschanel and Kirsten Dunst to perform on some of the tracks. Nice. Interestingly, many of his songs feel like the offbeat/hip movies he’s been in and would undoubtedly garner props from director Wes Anderson. Schwartzman has a very fragile voice, making his lyrics sound genuine and no doubt capable of converting die-hard Jonas Brothers fans into those of team Schwartzman. His music is poppy, but never generic – “Nighttiming” makes me want to get down, “West Coast” makes me wish I was from California, and “Easy Girl” makes me want to serenade that special someone. Jason Schwartzman is ballin’, check it out yo.
